Ciao from Roma

So we have only been in Italy for one day and I already want to move here. I love listening to sound of people speaking Italian. It’s such a romantic & beautiful sounding language. And my little Connor seems to be picking it up pretty easily. He knows (latte, ciao, buongiorno, ti amo, mela, gelato, ho finito and grazie) and he is picking up more by the minute. The people here in Rome are so warm and friendly especially the people who work in the bars (coffee shops). The old grandma’s love Connor and come out of the kitchen to say ciao to him and chatter to him in Italian. I do my best to interpret and help him to respond in some way. It’s so heart warming.

We are loving the city and our hotel. Our hotel is centrally located and we can walk many places. We have a lot of exploring ahead of us. We did a bit of exploring yesterday but most of our time was spent on a tour of the Vatican, the Sistine Chapel & St. Peter’s square. Amazing, Beautiful, Awe inspiring. It’s overwhelming to think about the time and effort that went into the extensive details of it all. The frescos, the mosaics, the stone work and just the over all design. It was a very interesting tour . . . not for a 3 year old. The tour bus picked us up at the hotel at 7:45am and did not return us until 1:00. Connor was such a trouper! He was on a combined total of 7 hrs of sleep over 2 day and he was so well behaved. Many people on the tour commented that their kids would have been a mess and would never have made it through a tour like this. I was so proud of my little guy for making such a good impression. He did fall asleep toward the end but I think we were all falling asleep toward the end. Like I said before this kid was made to travel.

Then in the evening Chris and I attended a cocktail party at for UNIDA at the hotel’s rooftop restaurant. This was our 1st time using a hotel babysitting service and it felt strange! However Guliana was very nice and Connor was fine when we left. It was nice that we were still in the hotel because it was easy for me to come down and check on Connor and I did several times. He was happy and content every time I checked in which makes me feel more comfortable using the sitter again tonight when Chris and I will attend another party but this one not at our hotel.
